Gerrit Cole Dominates, Yankees Blank Athletics For 10th Straight Win

Cole Pitches Perfect Game Through Six; Yankees Win 4-0

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole dazzled on the mound Tuesday night, tossing a perfect game through six innings and leading the Yankees to a 4-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics. The win was the Yankees' 10th straight, their longest winning streak of the season.

Cole was in complete control from the start, striking out the side in the first inning and retiring the first 18 batters he faced. He didn't allow a hit until the seventh inning, when A's shortstop Elvis Andrus singled to break up the perfect game. Cole finished the night with 10 strikeouts and no walks allowed in seven innings of work.

Yankees Offense Provides Just Enough Support

The Yankees offense provided just enough support for Cole, scoring three runs in the second inning off A's starter Cole Irvin. Aaron Judge drove in the first run with a single, and Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres followed with RBI doubles.

The Yankees added another run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Giancarlo Stanton, giving Cole more than enough cushion to work with.

Cole Continues To Impress

Cole's performance was his second dominant outing in a row. In his previous start, he threw eight shutout innings against the Chicago White Sox, striking out 12 batters.

The right-hander has now lowered his ERA to 2.80 this season, and he is emerging as one of the best pitchers in baseball. He is a major reason why the Yankees are one of the favorites to win the World Series this year.

Yankees Winning Streak Continues

The Yankees' 10-game winning streak is their longest since 2019, when they won 11 straight games in August.

The Yankees are now 42-16 this season, the best record in the American League. They are 10 games ahead of the second-place Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.

Looking Ahead

The Yankees will look to continue their winning streak on Wednesday night when they face the A's again in the second game of their three-game series.

Nestor Cortes will start for the Yankees, while James Kaprielian will take the mound for the A's.
